THE OTHER CITY VENICE: "Wonderland Pavilion" Aug 2010
The Other City - Venice will be part of a highly diversified programme presented and organised by the social centre of Morion, located directly in the neighbourhood of Castello. The project space is a result from the engagement of the local association ‘re-biennale’ to re-cycle left over materials from the Biennale, as well as the initiative of the wonderland team 'exyzt’ to re-activate this idle community space. Together, they face the challenge to transform Morion into a lively space for the neighbourhood with residency function and to organise a informal supermarket at the Magazzini del Sale re-using junk of the Biennale. Both spaces will be seen as a outstanding showcase and will finally become a powerful tool for rethinking currently disregarded public spaces of Venice and to stimulate further innovative projects.Participants will form a highly important, active part of this dynamic on-going process. Wonderland will bring European architects as well as initiatives together to the Morion in order to search for new solutions and develop innovative ideas for community spaces in Venice. The Other City will transform Morion into a temporary discussion forum on a international level with the aim to develop new visions together with inhabitants of Venice. The final event of will be the ‘Wonderland Pavilion’ which will provide young European architects, inhabitants of Castello as well as local associations with a vibrant platform fostering international exchange in the course of the opening week of the Biennale of Architecture in Venice.
